Math Night a HUGE Success

PSS Night at Laconia High School
On Friday, January 9th, we will be having PSS Night at the Laconia Girl's Basketball game at LHS. The game begins at 6:00 and our students will be performing a school dance they have learned. All student are welcome!! The game is FREE for PSS families. Remember to wear your RED and WHITE!
MATH NIGHT at Pleasant Street School
We will be hosting our first ever Math Night at PSS on Tuesday, January 13th from 5:45-6:45. Families will learn about using games to improve Math Skills. Each family that attends will leave with a Math Game for their family!!

Family Sing-A- Long
On Monday, December 22, PSS will be hosting its annual family Sing-A-Long from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the PSS Gymnasium. This family event is hosted by VIPSS and will include songs, story-telling, cookies and more. See you there!
Holiday Parties Schedule
On Tuesday, December 23, PSS will be having an afternoon of fun events for the students.
o 12:00 – Classroom setup for parties. Please check with classroom teachers
o 1:00 – Classroom Dances. In the gym and coordinated by Mrs. Gonzalez
o 1:30 – School Sing-A-Long by grade. Each grade will be singing a festive song!
o 2:00 – 3:00 – Classroom parties. As always, healthy treats are recommended
Presents for Pleasant
What an amazing night. Over 480 gifts were wrapped for 80+ PSS students! Huge "THANKS" to everyone who donated gifts and wrapping supplies. Also, a "thank you" to the Laconia High School National Honor Society helped wrap all of the gifts!!

Taste Test Tuesday - Pumpkin Dip
Once a month for Taste Test Tuesday we try to offer the students a healthy food that is tasty, and something they might not have tried on their own. The goal is to increase their consumption of healthy, good tasting food. This month we offered a healthy pumpkin dip. It was enjoyed by most students with many asking for the recipe.
Pumpkin Dip
1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
3 tablespoons canned pumpkin
1 tablespoon orange juice concentrate
½ tsp. of pumpkin pie spice
Dip in with graham crackers and enjoy!
The FINAL Results were: 212 (Yes, I like it) to 25 (No, I don't like it)

Halloween Parade:
Our Halloween Parade will begin at 1:30 on Friday, October 31st. Classroom set up can start at 12:00. Please remember that costumes are not to be worn to school on Friday.
Grades Close:
Grades close for 1st Quarter on Friday, October 31st. Report Cards go home on November 7th with your child.
Student-Led Conferences:
On October November 10th, we will be having Student-Led Conferences beginning at 1:00. We are hoping for 100% participation. To sign up, contact your child's teacher.
Fall Festival...another HUGE Success:
This past Saturday, VIPSS hosted a Fall Festival at PSS. Their hard work and dedication paid off. It was a busy and very successful day full of games and prizes. THANKS to everyone who helped, participated and donated.

Taste Test Tuesday:
By an overwhelming margin, the students voted 255 to 10 in favor of having Apple Cider on the school menu.
Harvard University is coming to PSS:
On October 16th, Harvard University and SERESC will be at PSS conducting Instructional Rounds. Members of the PSS faculty are being trained to observe NH schools in order to improve instructional practices. PSS is the FIRST school in NH to participate in Instructional Rounds.
Lost and Found:
We have 2 gigantic bins of Lost and Found clothing. Please stop by the lobby if you are missing anything.

Walk to School Wednesday:
October 8th is "National Walk to School Wednesday". Join us as we walk to school from Opechee Park and enjoy a healthy snack with your child. Remember we leave at 8:10!!!
CLiF Ice Cream Social:
October 8th at 6:00 pm we will be having an CLiF Ice Cream Social for students and families. Due to your commitment to read with your child, CLiF will be sharing some tips to reading with your child every day.

Remember that drop in the morning is at 8:10. We are having close to 30 students arriving before that time. There is no school supervision until 8:10. Please plan accordingly.

Open House:
We have our annual Open House tonight!!! Please feel free to visit the school and the classrooms. If you need some time to meet privately with the teacher, you can set up a meeting at that time. Open House begins at 6:00 pm and ends at 7:00 pm.
Welcome CLiF to PSS:
On September 17th, CLiF will be at PSS to begin the YEAR OF THE BOOK!!! Students in grade 1-5 will leave PSS that day with a FREE BOOK courtesy of CLiF. What a way to start the year!

Up With People:
Up With People, a group of 100 students from all over the country, will be visiting PSS on September 3rd and working with our classes on "Personal Flags" that are connected to their Hopes and Dreams
Gold Rush:
Our annual "Gold Rush" will be on September 4th from 1:00 - 2:45. It is an exciting time for our school to build on community and team building at PSS. Mrs. Gonzalez coordinates the entire event!! Your children can dress up in western style attire.
Lunches:
Our lunches have been a bit busy and slow so students are having trouble finishing their food. Many of our new students are struggling with their new codes so it is taking a little longer than expected. This happens every year and we hope in a few days everything will be smoother. Thanks for your patience!

First Day of School:
August 26th is our first day of school!
Dress Code:
We are very glad to see that the warm weather has arrived in New Hampshire. Based on the arrival of
warm weather, We would like to remind students and parents of the dress code for PSS. It is essential to the
learning process that students dress appropriately. Appropriate dress in the educational setting shows respect
for self and others. Students are to wear shorts and skirts of modest length. A good guideline is while standing in a
relaxed stance, the end of the fingertips when arms are held to the sides should reach the bottom of the shorts/skirts.
New Classroom Teachers:
PSS is pleased to welcome Ms. Gagnon (Grade 4) and Mrs. Walls (Grade 1) to our community. They are very excited to begin the school year with all of our friends and families in the Laconia School District.

- If you need to get out of your car to help your child out, please go to a parking spot
- If you need to go into the building, please park in lot and not in the drop off lane
- Have your child sit on the passenger side of the car, closest to the curb so they can exit easier
